Leslie Vasquez- Republicans Fear a Change of Majority in the Supreme Court After Kavanaugh Accusations

On September 17, Supreme Court nominee Brett M. Kavanaugh was accused of sexual assault by Christine Blasey Ford, claiming that he had pinned her to a bed, groped her, and tried to take off her bathing suit at a party when they were teenagers. Kavanaugh has denied the allegation, saying that he has never done such a thing. Many people who favor the Republican party now fear that, due to the uprising of allegations of sexual assault in the government and the protests that come with those allegations, Democrats could end up being the majority in the Supreme Court if Kavanaugh is not elected. If they let Kavanaugh free without any type of comment on the matter, more people favoring the Democratic party, who in this case would be mostly women, will have a big impact in the midterms.

Protests in this country have been going on since the first settlers stepped on this land. If you think about it, settlers coming to the New World was all a protest in itself against Britain. Protests have shaped the outcomes in which U.S. history is based on. In modern times, protests have focused on specifically the type of people that are leading this country. I think this is important because it shows the general public that we have the power to either create positive or negative outcomes. Political protests have been taking ill leaders out of the office, while others are still in question. We are able to make a very significant impact, like the possibility of the Supreme Court having a Democratic majority, and we should try as much as we can to shape the country we would like to live in.
