Kennedy Hannible- Aretha Franklin's Funeral

The Queen of Soul died on August 16, 2018, due to terminal pancreatic cancer at the age of 76.
Her funeral represented everything that made her who she and was an amazing way to celebrate her life. Her funeral was held at the Greater Grace Temple were people like former president Bill Clinton, pop singer Ariana Grande, and former first lady Michelle Obama attended. To commemorate the queen herself 100 pink Cadillacs escorted her hearse to her final resting place. Aretha also had many open-casket viewings one was streamed from the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History in Detroit and another at New Bethel Baptist Church.
Even though her funeral was a time to celebrate her life there were many things that caught the eye of the people. One being the incident was Bishop Charles H. Ellis pulled Ariana grande groped her onstage after her amazing performance. He later apologized, but Ariana shows us that there is no safe place for women America. Another big moment was when the well-known actress Cicely Tyson came on stage with an extravagantly big hat, but she had an amazing speech to go with it. There were also many terrific performances by artists like Yolanda Adams, Marvin Sapp, and Vanessa Bell Armstrong.
But August 31,2018 was to celebrate the life of a queen who brought us musical hits like Respect, I say a Little Prayer, and Natural Woman. She will always be remembered for her outstanding personality and voice.

  1. This was a tremendously sad and major loss for the black community she will never be forgotten. I agree with your points on how big an influence she was in the music industry and just black people. With out her I don't where R&B, soul music etc. would be.
