On Thursday, Dianne Feinstein notified federal investigators of an incident that occurred with Brett Kavanaugh back in highschool. She stated that he had sexually assaulted her and tried to force himself on her during a highschool party. The Judiciary Committee is schedule to vote on Thursday on whether to recommend Kavanaugh be confirmed by the full senate. A white house spokeswoman, Kerri Kupec, was skeptical by stating that no one had ever mentioned anything of the sort until Feinstein. John Cornyn, a member of the committee was also skeptical due to the fact that at the time the accusation it was of a secret matter from an anonymous accuser. Cory Booker released confidential files on Kavanaugh that raised some pressing questions on Kavanaugh's honesty during his testimony.
I think that the fact that the date of the alleged incident makes it extremely difficult for either parties to prove their side of the story. I also believe that due to the confidential files that were released it is harder to believe any word that comes out of Kavanaugh's mouth as honest. I think that this can be connected to the countless number of politicians who have been accused of sexual assault many of which were never convicted of a crime. I think that regardless of whether that was due to their actual innocence or their position in society, it brings up the topic of power. The power that political leaders and influencers have is something many still choose to deny. However with their amount of influence it is fairly simple for them to manipulate what the media sees.
I believe that you are correct when it comes to the topic of power that you discussed in your second paragraph, however Dianne Feinstein is a U.S. senator. The woman who has accused Kavanaugh is Christine Blasey Ford. It states that in the article you're written about. I believe, nonetheless, that his incident will make for political turmoil that will unfurl and become written in a history book one day, as I suspect the #MeToo movement will as well, and this occurence has been tied into it by an article written by the CNN.
ReplyDeleteI also agree with your opinion of a person's position in society also refers to power. I also do agree in the fact that a higher position person's has more influence in society and could affect us or benefit in either way.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you Yesenia because people in positions of power affects the magnitude of the issue. For someone as well-known as Kavanaugh to be acused of such acts, affects their platform and support from the people.
