Karsyn Kelly-- Technology is changing the way you see a doctor, but is that good for your health?

One day Charles Latuske woke up not feeling well and in need of a doctor. He was short on time and infant, was about to leave for vacation with his wife three days. He knew by calling his practitioner he'd have to wait several days to even get an appointment in. Therefore, thanks to the internet, his wife found a private medical app where you can be in touch online with a doctor in an hour for a fee of $30. Latuske was quite skeptical but "was very desperate," he said. In 20 minutes he was speaking live with a doctor who then gave him his diagnosis. In an hour he was at his nearest pharmacy gathering his prescribed antibiotics. Three days went by and he went on his vacation just as planned. Contradicting this point, in a recent study, Pereira Gray found that seeing the same doctor can save lives. 82 percent found that multiple contact with same doctor meant less deaths.

This article showed the different perspectives of how people choose to take care of themselves when in need of a doctor. The technical way of a doctor in my opinion, can be beneficial, but only to a certain extent. In times of when your in a hurry and need to see what's wrong with you, or even just on occasion it would be smart to use the online doctor. On a regular basis, it would not be smart to use the online doctor, but meet in person with a real doctor regularly.

  1. I agree, I think the situation can go 2 ways just like you mentioned.

  2. I find it so interesting how we can use the internet for everything, heating and cooling houses, ordering groceries, and now being prescribed medications through an online visit to the doctor. I do think that with some features new technology, the internet has allowed us to become more isolated and has lessened our interactions with other people whether it be the doctor or the cashier at the supermarket- Fiona Graybill
