John Legend is the first African American to reach an EGOT !!!
John Legend got his Emmy for his performance in Jesus Christ Super Star Live (along with the rest of the cast, but no one acres right now- this is not about them). Well with that being said he is the first African American man to be in the EGOT status ( Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, & Tony ) "All of Me" received 10 Grammys + a Tony for best play revival as co-producer of "Jitney". Also with the song "Glory" winning best original song Oscar (which was featured in the movie Selma). Being 39 w/an EGOT has him tied with Robert Lopez ("Frozen and " The book of Mormon") for being the youngest to get all four.
..........
Being of the racial minority means it is a true challenge to get the privileges of the 'caucasian raced'. Even though hearing "The first ... to ..." is an awesome sentence, but it is honestly disappointing - these should've been said a long time ago, but that is a whole other rant. We need to be grateful for those who were first.

I think its so amazing that we're able to see another black person get added to the list of EGOTs! Representation matters, and my people are truly talented!
