Nike has launched its 30th anniversary "Just Do It" campaign and chose Colin Kaepernick as the face of this campaign. Kaepernick has been with Nike since 2011, even though he hasn't been on an NFL team since 2016. He has caused a lot of controversy because he started the kneeling during the national anthem at NFL games in 2016. He did this as a protest of the racial injustices against African Americans. Because of his protests, the NFL has come up with a rule that players must stand during the Star Spangled Banner, otherwise they have to remain in the locker room. This rule is still being discussed by the league and players, and no agreement has been reached. "Believe in something, even if it means sacrificing everything," is the quote on the new campaign.
This article was written to inform the public that Colin Kaepernick will be the face of the new Nike campaign. I think the article was trying to give people the background on Kaepernick and what his protests were about. The quote on the advertisement by Nike is giving the message that believing in something and being passionate about it are worth more than money or fame. Kaepernick was protesting something he believed in and his career was impacted by this belief he had. While I may not agree with how Kaepernick protested, I do agree with Nike's campaign in sacrificing for things that you truly believe in.

Honestly I am so happy that Kaepernick is getting support. To me there is nothing more honorable than peaceful protest.
ReplyDeleteI believe that Kaepernick did something that should be honored because he did protest in something he believed in. And now Nike see's what he did and wants to set an example to others.
