Flooding in the Carolinas-Gracie Zytynski

The Carolinas are currently in a powerful hurricane called Florence. Florence is a category 1 hurricane with winds up to 50 miles per hour. The hurricane has dropped more than 30 inches of rain making it North Carolina's record. As a result of the storm the power has gone out for many and grocery stores were destroyed leaving the people hungry. Also, due to the conditions 12 deaths have occurred from trees falling and severe flooding. Many aids are coming to North Carolina to help with saving those in the flood and rebuilding the areas Florence has hit.
This article was posted Sunday, September 16 by Campbell Robertson from the New York Times. Prior to this article, I had heard of hurricane Florence coming to North Carolina from a friend who left the state for shelter from other family members, but I did not know how bad the hurricane was going to get. I am heartbroken to hear of how bad the hurricane has gotten and how it is hurting the residents in the storm. This storm reminds me of Hurricane Harvey that hit Houston last year and Hurricane Katrina that struck the Gulf Coast in 2005. These hurricanes required unity to rebuild the areas hit just how after the American Revolution the United States they used unity to build the nation into something new. This article was most likely to inform all about what is happening in the Carolinas. The authors purpose was to inform the audience of how the Carolinas are dealing with a horrible hurricane that is putting their lives in jeopardy and how we need to help those struggling. This article is important because it shows the United States how our country is suffering from a powerful hurricane that has resulted in the death of 12 people.

  4. This hurricane is causing so much damage! The floods and heavy winds are doing damage far beyond repair. I truly hope no one else has to suffer a loss by this terrible natural disaster.
