Mollie Tibbetts' father asks people to stop using her death in immigration debate
Mollie Tibbetts was a 20-year-old woman who was killed by Christhian Bahena, a man who was illegally living in the U.S. Her father, Rob Tibbetts, has asked people to stop using her death as a political pawn in the immigration debate. After Bahena's arrest, President Donald Trump, at a rally, referenced her murder and insulted the nations immigration laws. Rob Tibbetts talks about how he believes that the situation is being warped to fit political agendas. "The person who is accused of taking Mollie’s life is no more a reflection of the Hispanic community as white supremacists are of all white people. To suggest otherwise is a lie," he wrote. Tibbetts even apologizes to the hispanic community for being generalized because of the situation.
I feel that Rob Tibbetts request is completely fair. The article shows how people bending the truth to benefit them can hurt other people. In Tibbetts situation, he knows that his daughter didn't agree with what some politicians were saying in the debate, and he wishes that others would respect that and not use her death to prove a point.
This is somewhat similar to how slave owners would use the Bible to justify slavery in the 1800s. They would bend the teachings and stories inside the Bible to make it seem alright to own a human.

I definitely agree that no tragedy should be warped for political benefit. The loss another is not an opportunity to take advantage of the situation for person gain. Good synthesis; I woudn't have thought to relate the warped Bible stories to this.
