This weekend, Senator John McCain's funeral took place in Washington D.C. His own daughter, Meghan McCain, gave her own heartfelt eulogy among those of many respected figures such as Barack Obama. This article gives a summary of what she said and touches specifically on her comments intended towards President Trump. He was not invited to the funeral, per Senator McCain's wishes, due to their feud. Among Meghan McCain's most striking comments are "the America of John McCain has no need to be made great again because it was always great." Less directly she refers to "cheap rhetoric from men who will never come near the sacrifice he gave so willingly."

The article was written the day of the funeral. That day, I listened to her eulogy on the radio while driving to my piano lesson with my dad. It was painful to listen to, as she was obviously tearful and in pain, but these comments stood out to us and stayed in our memories. This article was written for someone who does not support Trump and did not hear the eulogy Ms. McCain gave at the time it was given. I think the article's author, Mihir Zaveri, was interested and intrigued by her comments and wanted to write about them to make sure everyone has heard them. It's important that people know what she has said as she is acting for her father and continuing to convey his message and opinions on our current administration. The political feuding between the McCain family and Donald Trump can be compared to other notorious political feuds such as the ones between Abraham Lincoln and Stephen Douglas, who had cutting debates, primarily on the topic of slavery, and the even more famous feud the duel between Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr, which ended with Hamilton's death. Disagreement between the McCain's and the Trump's have been civil as to date, but they are both passionate in their beliefs and unwilling to compromise them.

  1. Meghan McCain's words are spot on, as were the remarks by Presidents Obama and Bush. I cannot believe the tweet by Trump during the funeral, stating, in all caps, "MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN". There is a lack of professionals in office at the moment, and it's sad to see such a renowned man pass.

Meghan McCain was completely within her right to say what she did about Trump and calling him out for not making the same sacrifices as her father. Not only does Trump draw attention to himself with false facts, but he acted offended when he was not invited to the funeral of a man whom he never respected.
