Emma Lake: Dallas Officer Amber Guyger Arrested on Manslaughter Charge in Botham Jean Shooting

Ok, y'all. I'mma let you know, I ain't got a whole lot to say for this one, because if I were to say what I really wanted to it would be enraged vulgar language with all the words running together in six paragraphs. So let me keep this simple (and slightly spiteful).

I live on Lamar Street. Like, I could walk to the South Side Flats. They're diagonal from South Side Lofts, where I live. But anyway. The story is, this white police officer (who's female this time, that's a new one) allegedly broke into this man's apartment miraculously thinking it was her own and shot him because she thought he broke into her place. Neighbors reported hearing banging coupled with "open this door!"
Whew, chile.
So y'all mean to tell me this woman had her hand on her gun when she walked into this apartment? So she could whip it out that fast? So she worked a 12 hour shift. She's been at this for four years. Twelve hours shifts don't equal deliriousness to the point you unlock the door to someone else's apartment, walk in, and shoot the person in it. People who work 16 hours, additional overtime, pull all nighters into 2 o'clock in the afternoon, can still go home and have full conversations with their children, shower, and hit the mattress.

Let me just quickly explain how the doors in South Side Flats even work. Given, to get into your apartment, you need a key. As for this apartment complex, the locks are equipped with bright indicator lights. If you put the wrong key in the lock, or don't place it in properly, the light will flash red. Once the door is unlocked, it flashes green, gives you a second or two grace period, then the door is open. In order for this woman's story to even be correct, she would have had to incorrectly put her key into this man's door lock to be greeted with a red light.
I don't care how tired you are. If the light ain't green, it ain't workin. Point blank period. And if she really still at this point thought it was her door, a few tries of switching the key around would have told her "nah sis, this ain't it."

The officer, Amber Guyger, was arrested and charged with manslaughter. We've been here before; officer gets charged, gives teary-eyed plea, gets let off with a slap on the wrist. At least this time she shot the man in his own home. The justice system gotta account for that one. Still doesn't move me enough to think she won't get the ultimate punishment of paid leave, though.

Let's be real. No matter how you look at this, there's no logical, solid reason, this woman didn't  a.) do this in cold blood or  b.) know this man and/or his apartment. Literally nothing convinces me she wasn't fully aware of her surroundings. My loose guess: a lover's quarrel. Facebook posts show they've interacted in some way. Maybe she broke in, angry about something, and shot him to shut him up.

How this applies with history? Nothing changes. The fact that nearly the entire black community knows deep down 26-year-old Botham Shem Jean's mother will cry endlessly over her son and demand justice only to be shot down with non-guilty pronunciations is enough in itself. Nothing this community hasn't seen before. The only difference? Apparently, we aren't even safe in our homes anymore.
