NASA names Holly Ridings its first female chief flight director
Holly Ridings has been named the first female chief flight director after years of hard work and dedication. She has proved herself as a leader by working as a lead flight director on missions such as the International Space Station mission Expedition 16 in 2007, the Space Shuttle Program mission STS-127 in 2009, and the first SpaceX Dragon cargo spacecraft mission to the space station in 2012.
Although through the decade many women have become more involved with NASA as women's' rights increase, Holly Ridings is a significant female figure for space travel and influential for aspiring girls looking to spend their career as a leader in space.
This accomplishment is similar to when Sally Ride was the first woman to ever fly in space, which was in 1983. Women in space have come a long way, and in 2018 woman have been able to work the jobs they deserve and aspire to have more than they have in the past. Although growth for women in STEM careers is slower than many would hope, there is progress being made.

  1. Man, it really is lovely to know that even in this time of turmoil, there's still good news. I wonder, what made NASA decide that now is the best time for their first female chief flight director and why it took them so long?

  2. I find this very fascinating, and amazing. It is good to hear that in all of the disappointing and insane things we hear in politics, and news today, there are small victories that will change the future for the good instead of the bad.
