Trump calls for CNN boss Jeff Zucker to be fired
https://www.bbc.com/news/business-45357329
On August 30, 2018, Donald Trump tweeted that the president of CNN, Jeff Zucker, should be fired for "hatred and extreme bias" towards the White House. Trump attacked CNN's credibility and expressed his opinion that CNN's ratings "suck". This story is taking place while Zucker is on leave for heart surgery recovery. Trump also went after NBC and the Washington Post on similar matters. He later added that he was glad NBC's chairman Andy Lack was facing dismissal after sexual harassment allegations. CNN did not stay silent, but instead posted a tweet saying that they report the truth and the lies of people in power. This is all following the ban of CNN reporter Kaitlan Collins from a White House event after she asked questions concerning Russia and Michael Cohen.
This article was published by BBC on August 30, 2018. Not much time has passed since that date and those who read the article know they can trust the source, though the president might not. It is not the first time that Trump has targeted CNN for being "fake news" and his timing of this accusation is important to consider. This is coming in the wake of the indictments of Paul Manafort and Michael Cohen, both very close people to the president. True, CNN, NBC, and the Washington Post undoubtedly reported these significant events, but they did it truthfully. Trump of course wants the country and his supporters to believe this is all fake and that he had nothing to do with the two criminals. Trump is hiding behind his accusations and this is important information for the readers to know before they start believing the person in power is correct. Another important fact that was brought up was the mentioning of NBC's chairman facing dismissal following sexual harassment allegations. Of course it is important that this person is taken out of any leadership role, but what the reader should focus on is the fact that Trump is saying this is "good news". Trump, the person who has a fair number of sexual harassment allegations and is denying them all, is saying that this is "good news". Our president is a hypocrite ladies and gentlemen. Though this article leaves a sour taste in the mouths of readers, it should have a positive influence on them in general. They are gaining more knowledge by reading this and, (hopefully), coming to the conclusion that Donald Trump should not be re-elected; this is the goal of the author as well. This event compares to Richard Nixon calling Washington Post's Katharine Graham false during her coverage of Watergate. Nixon was denying everything that her newspaper printed on the story, but it was all uncovered to be true. The people even know that Trump is in fact denying the truth, and yet he still chooses to keep doing it.

ReplyDeleteKaitlan Collins was not "banned" from the White House. She was dismissed from a single press conference, and she was being quite annoying, but it was probably ultimately because of the topic of her questions and the organization she's with.
And don't deny that CNN, Wash Po, NBC, New York Times, Huff Po, etc have a huge bias against the White House.
Emma I agree with you 100 percent. Trump is trying to do anything to keep the focus off him and the Russian investigation. Talk about a witch hunt, Trump is looking for anything that he can call "Fake News", whether it makes sense or not.
