Summary:
late Thursday night Dallas police officer Amber Guyger entered what she mistakenly thought was her own apartment and shot and killed Botham Shem Jean, her neighbor. Jean, age 26, was mistaken for an intruder by the officer in his own apartment while doing his basic nighttime routine. Amber Guyger, the officer was arrested Sunday evening and will be facing possible manslaughter charges for the shooting. The authorities took a couple days before they got Guyger in custody due to the case being turned over from the Dallas Police Chief to the Texas Rangers.
Analysis:
This article was written by Kristine Phillips on September 10th. I believe that Kristine Phillips wrote the article very well by producing the facts without a biased opinion. The article explains that Jean's mother, Allison Jean had many unanswered questions about how and why the situation arose, and frankly I do as well. Anyone knows that in downtown Dallas (where the shooting occurred) that you have to keep your door locked when you aren't home, so if the officer tried to unlock the door she probably would have noticed that the key did not fit. Also, since the shooter was a police officer why would her first instinct be to shoot at the intruder when she has most likely been trained for a similar situation. I personally feel like certain aspects of this case don't line up, and should be investigated further.
