Marilyn Wagner and DJ Ginsberg are two proud owners of over $10 million worth of more than 60,000 letterpress blocks and plates that were once used to print newspaper advertisements for movie releases from the silent era through 1984. They have spent many years restoring and cleaning these presses which produce the most household of names, many of which are displayed in the attached video.
I attribute this bulk rediscovery of something so precious and iconic to the mass-media growth spurt of America from which they come from. In the 1920s, people strived to attain an “American standard of living”, enjoying many luxuries during their newfound extended periods of leisure, due to new, affordable inventions within American households. I think that the short film is incredible, moving, and successful in planting a warm seed of American patriotism in viewers, another theme common to the 20s.
Excellent synthesis!
