It has been announced that Amazon is laying off hundreds of their employees. The layoffs have mainly been affecting the Seattle headquarters, but might spread to global terms. They are making arrangements where they are letting go of people in areas where they have to many and aggressively hiring in places where they have small amounts of people working. Though they stated that in the past year they have added 130,000 jobs making their total job headcount 560,000.
It is good that the company is trying to not overcrowd itself, but its sad to see all the people they are letting go. Hopefully they hire more new employees than they let go opening more job opportunities for people than closing them.

I wonder how this will affect the new headquarters that is supposed be announced? would that mean more jobs but none being able to keep their own
ReplyDeleteWith the internet shopping going on you would think people like amazon would need all the employees they can get. Do you think this will effect the way that people view online shopping.
ReplyDeleteI find that really interesting because all these big companies, including Amazon, love to talk about all the new people they are hiring, but you don't hear about people being laid off from the same companies as much.

This is a bit off kilter from mainstream advertising. The main reason we don’t hear about this much is because companies don’t like customers to know that they are letting people go. It is interesting to be sure however.
ReplyDeleteI feel so bad fro everyone that lost their jobs. Why would a company as big as amazon need to lay off so many people? ARe they losing money?
