US versus France Home Security, By Harrison Epstein

http://politickernj.com/2015/05/the-united-states-and-france-cross-in-the-night/

The United States is finally trying to come out of policies that were a direct result of the 9/11 terrorist attack on our country. Currently the US is being pulled in many directions with regards to the future of the Patriot Act. Some feel that this impacts personal privacy, and so efforts are being made in order to pull back from the measures which were implemented after the attacks. Challengers of the Patriot Act are trying to enact meaningful reforms for personal health, safety, and privacy. As the United States is moving in this direction, at the same time, France is speeding forward to something very different. The laws that they are enacting are even more horrifying than the United States' NSA or any big brother scenario. France's new privacy laws make the government able to tap cellphones, monitor emails, and other modern technology.

These differences in basic privacy policy could impact the United State's future relationship with France. In the globalization of technology, there could be collisions in deciding how to monitor information which goes abroad. This might give France the ability to monitor their citizens as well as US citizens and their lives online when they are interacting. With the creation of modern technologies such as the internet and cordless phones, there need to be privacy laws set up very clearly. It would be helpful if this was for the whole world. As we can see, though, it is starting country by country. I hope no violence comes from the difference in policy between France and the United States.
