On April 28, Japan and the United States agreed to form an alliance in cyber security which would affect both countries. Both countries are afraid of possible infiltration from larger and more technically advanced entities such as North Korea and China. The idea is to create a global standard for internet privacy and security. One of the things that this new program is going to do is allow the sharing of data of possible threats and hackers. So, whatever information that Japan has will be available to the United States, and whatever information the United States has will be available to Japan. The Obama administration so far has charged five Chinese citizens on the count of cyber hacking the US, and so as far as the FBI is concerned, the threat is very real. For now, this can be seen as mostly symbolic as there really isn't all that much proof yet. The alliance may become more dire and necessary as years go on and technology advances even further.
This shows how far the relationship between the United States and Japan has come since the end of World War II, especially considering the fact that it was the US who dropped the atomic bomb down at Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Technology is the new frontier. I think this is a very good preventative measure for the new era which the world is about to enter. With smartphones controlling the lives of many, access to these technologies could mean a big impact on knowing what is going on with someone. It might be dangerous for the government, foreign or domestic, to have this ability to check up on its citizens. I think it's good that these countries are thinking towards the future.
