Hundreds of thousands of French citizens and government officials joined in the streets of Paris for a "unity rally" in response to the terrorist killings that have taken place over the last week. At the front of the march was President Francois Hollande and other in high offices. Along with the country's dignitaries was the creator of the Great Mosque of Paris and the president of the French Council of the Muslim Faith. In order to carry on with the march security measures were set on high to protect the large number of people gathered, as well as the number of prime ministers and officials from other countries. Over 2,300 police and other law enforcement were called for the Sunday march. Police officers were instructed to have their weapons at all times and take extra precautions because sources say one of the suspects, Amedy Coulibaly, had made phone calls about targeting law enforcement.
The events that have occurred in France for the past week can be related to the bombings at the Boston Marathon. In both events there were signs that linked the terrorist to extremest groups. Though in France that attacks seem to have clear targets against religious groups, law enforcement, and a newspaper. After the Boston bombing in the U.S. extra precautionary measures were taken at other sporting events that followed. Patterns like this can be seen throughout history. For example, after 9/11 airport security was placed at an all time high. Just as now French officials are increasing security in their law enforcement.
