Recently, a woman was taken by an escaped con who was serving five lifetime sentences for the murder of four victims in a drug deal gone wrong. She called the authorities from a bathroom in a gas station while they stopped for gas. He had previously forced his way into her jeep as she sat in a parking lot. The woman was not harmed, but the man was equipped with a box cutter and hammer. Guards said that he was a good prisoner and they had no reason to suspect him escaping. Nevertheless, he managed to crawl out from under two fences. By the time authorities arrived at the gas station, the man had already left in the woman's jeep.
This occurrence obviously makes one question the security of prisons. They seem to be pretty secure. However, with something like this happening, it makes me wonder if they need to increase the security of these facilities. At least in the parts where they keep the more dangerous felons. Luckily, the woman was not harmed and she was able to get in contact with police before they had gotten too far.

Wow! I agree. It does question the security of prisons. It's always the good quiet ones who have something up their sleeve.
ReplyDeletePrisoners, especially those with life sentences, have all the time in the world to think of ways to escape. No system is perfect, but I agree that it could always be improved!
