Andrew Percy, a U.K. Conservative Lawmaker, has been stressed by Brexit. He said no matter what you vote for, you get shouted at, so he has been hiding in the darkness of his office. Percy is apart of a representative group of Northern England, where 66% vote to leave the European Union. He is hardly the only person stressed by the separation of the U.K. Huw Merriman, another conservative council man, has admitted to seeking therapy over stress from Brexit and backlash of voters, and he has also admitted to having lost four inches from his waist line! Norman Lamb, an opposition lawmaker, believes twitter culture is making the situation worse. He complained that there is so much criticism right in your face on social media, and it can be overwhelming for the lawmakers. A recent poll of over 2,000 Britons shows that 83% dislike seeing Brexit in the news constantly, and more than 2/3rds say Brexit is more confusing the more they look into it.
Personally, I didn't know about the nuances of this situation. I knew about Brexit and what the conflict was, but I was definitely unaware about the effect on the lawmakers, and the British people as a whole. I feel bad to think that the whole country is in constant stress about the effects of the decision, and I can completely empathize for these poor lawmakers that feel hopeless as to the inability to make a "correct" decision. The tension between both sides of the argument is strong, and the lawmakers' decisions affect many lives. I can compare this to the League of Nations, attempted to be created after WWI by the United States, but instead of being able to go forward with it, Congress would not allow America to join a group they created. I am sure this caused slight conflict within the American people, definitely not the same as Britain leaving the European Union, but Britain is a big part of the European Union, and America was a big part of the League of Nations. I am extremely curious to see the outcome of Brexit, and hopefully it is not the beginning of a huge war.
