Isadora Lilly- African American boy beaten by Florida sheriff’s deputy
Over the weekend, a video of an of a 15 year old African American boy by the name of Lucca went viral. This video shows him being pepper sprayed, beat, and arrested by a Florida sheriff’s deputy who is now being investigated by the Division of Internal Affairs. The viral video has been watched over 5 million times on Twitter, having led to the creation of a petition signed by more than 20,000 people calling for the deputies involved to be fired. It is said that Lucca was simply picking up the phone of another boy being arrested when he was attacked by police.
This reminds me of the videos taken during the Civil Rights Movement, which lasted from 1954 to 1968, in which white police officers are seen brutally beating African Americans. This shows us how corrupt law enforcement still is today and how little justice challenges and punishes officers who injure those not breaking any laws, whereas the victim was hurt and receives no justice.

ReplyDeleteIt's beyond disgusting, and those cops need to be fired and put in jail. But they probably won't be.
