Siobhan Crummey- The Longest Sea-Crossing Bridge is now Open

The Chinese president has recently opened the worlds longest Sea- Crossing Bridge in the city of Zhuhai. It spans 34 miles, and connects mainland China with territories along the southern coast. President Xi Jinping spent a whopping $20 Billion dollars on the newest project. Even though this new bridge is very useful and ready to be put to service, only people with special licenses can cross. Even public transportation must be arranged ahead of time.

The historical context is that China has made efforts to connect to territories in the past, but they haven't crossed an entire sea before. The audience is the Chinese people, letting them know that the mainland is attempting to make connections, and also to inform the other citizens of the world. The point of view is an American, they don't have a first hand perspective of what its like in China with your territory physically being reached out too. This is important because it shows that with such a big population, you can still maintain connections with smaller territories and islands even from the massive mainland.

  1. I think it’s interesting how such a big mainland like China is making an effort to reach out to the smaller territories

  2. This is very cool and I love seeing new architecture anywhere. The bridge sounds very long and this is great for the human race advancing in architecture.
