#MeToo - Emma Hancock

#MeToo Brought Down 201 Powerful Men. Nearly Half of Their Replacements Are Women.

This article shows how the famous #MeToo hashtag movement on various social media networks has started to bring justice to the women affected by men. Men who have committed sexual harassment are finally being held accountable for their crimes by losing their jobs and some even being convicted. Although full justice cannot be fully served to some victims because of the lack evidence, many businesses have refused to allow men with such accusations to continue working, some have even resigned themselves out of shame and/or admitting to their crime. A total of 201 powerful men have lost their jobs because of this movement, and 43% (almost half) of those jobs have been replaced by women. Of those women who replaced men in these jobs, one-third are in news media, one-fourth in government, and one-fifth in entertainment and the arts. This is a victory for gender equality advocates (and women in general) everywhere.

This article is very important to me because it is great to see that women are not only being believed more and more, but the men who committed these actions are being held accountable. I think one of the most significant parts of this article is the number of women who replaced the men. For most women, it is already hard to find and be chosen for jobs that men once had, but now it is even more of a win for women because men are rightfully losing their jobs, and a lot of women are gaining these powerful careers and increasing the influence of women in the workplace. This time in our country is similar to the women's rights reform movement in the 19th and 20th century America. Both are times when women are refusing to stay quiet and silently deal with the traumas that have occurred. Although the two times are different in topic, both are a milestone in truly equal rights for men and women

  2. I'm happy that men are finally facing consequences for their terrible actions. When more and more women are getting justice, this may help other women be open to speak about their own sexual abuse stories.
