Karsyn Kelly: 13-year-old boy attacked by a shark near San Diego in 'serious condition'

13 year-old boy encountered a shark attack and was taken to Dr. Tim Fairbanks, chief of pediatric and trauma surgery at Rady Children's Hospital in San Diego. This shark attack occurred around Saturday morning and he is still in serious condition, although he was downgraded from the critical condition he was originally in. The attacked happened when the boy was diving for lobsters in waters on Ecinitas, California. He suffered very traumatic injuries to his upper torso. This injury was very big and deep in his chest.
Several people were also diving for lobsters during the shark attack because it was the opening of the season for catching crustaceans. 3 Samaritans luckily heard the boy's scream and helped bring him to the shore by using a kayak. A lifeguard a super close to the incident, therefore he arrived to the scene and provided first aid kit right away. The paramedics arrived soon after, and from there the boy was taken to the nearest hospital. When on the the helpers go him onto the kayak he said, "His whole clavicle's ripped open; you could see the Balla and socket joint and everything." Nearby beaches were closed for 48 hours after this tragic event.

This story is super scary considering I was at the beach twice this past summer. You always need to be aware of your surroundings when you at at the beach and when you know that there could be potential danger. It makes my heartbreak that this little boy was just trying to have fun, and it had to end up this way. Always be careful, because you can be fin one moment and in danger the next.

  2. I wrote about this same article. It’s so sad that this happened to a young kid, especially when he was participating in a big yearly event for lobster diving. I hope he eventually gets better and gets back on his feet again. - Joziah German

  3. I wonder what made the shark attack him. But I hope that he heals alright. And when he does he'll have a pretty bad ass story to tell.
