Haley Bogdon - Mexico Beach home survives Hurricane Michael virtually untouched

This article described the total devastation that the seaside community of Mexico Beach, Florida experienced.  However, one family's concrete home remained almost completely untouched.  The owners knew that hurricanes were common and they stated that they built this home to withstand these types of storms.  Although the storm had winds around 155 mph, the owner watched on the security camera and hoped for the best.  The owner, Lackey, said when they were building the house they often added extra concrete and built things that were more than what was required, such as steel cables to hold down the roof.  He said that these things were not that expensive and were worth every penny spent.  After the storm, this house stood alone and looked like it survived the storm very well.

I think the author was trying to portray one positive story among then many sad and devastating stories that have been written about this storm.  This article gives people hope that there is a way you can prevent losing everything in the future if you rebuild using these methods.  I think that this gives some people hope seeing a house standing tall against the storm and making it through.

  1. Incredible story. It's amazing what foresight can do to save your life. Hopefully architects and builders that work in the areas affected by the hurricane make sturdier buildings the norm, in case of future hurricanes just as bad or as worse as Hurricane Michael.

  2. Wow what a miracle! This is something that i feel should be standard in hurricane risk areas. If these people could do it, why can't everyone else?
