Giant Mosquitoes Terrorize the Carolinas | Daniella Castanheira

In the wake of Hurricane Florence's destruction, giant mosquitoes are breeding in the floodwater. Bug experts say they are up to 3x larger than regular mosquitoes, and are even being mistaken for wasps. These mosquitoes can sting through two layers of clothing, but thankfully do not seem to be transmitting any diseases. The governor of North Carolina has ordered $4 million to help control the population of mosquitoes.

As a passionate hater of mosquitoes, I feel awful for the people affected by these monstrosities. Hopefully the governor's plan works, and these mosquitoes are dealt with as quickly as possible. The people reading this most likely are people not directly affected by Florence but feel the same way I do. These mosquitoes, much like those faced by the early settlers of the Chesapeake area, are causing many problems and are restricting relief after such a big change.

  2. Chloe Meinershagen - Not sure if my comment I just wrote posted, but I wrote that I can't imagine what a 3x times larger mosquito looks and feels like. I am spooked just thinking about it but I can't imagine living and seeing them fly around!

  3. I would't definitely want to be near one of these mosquitoes and i do hope the government does fix this issue. Also another problem that can later occur with this issue is that they can later on spread out more causing a bigger problem and making it harder to wipe them out.- Yesenia Ramirez

  4. I hope North Carolina’s governor’s plan works successfully. The state has already gone through so much with the hurricane and having to rebuild their cities, but now there’s a giant mosquito problem. I am glad that they have not been found to carry any disease though. I wish them the best of luck with the giant mosquitoes. Lily Philips
