Serena William's Unfair Punishment and Judgement- Kennedy Hannible

This weekend the U.S open final took place with opponents Serena Williams and Noami Osaka went head to head. During this match, a lot of commotion arose from the crowd. the umpire, and Serena. The referee punished  Serena for an illegal coaching violation which many people see as a bias remark. The Umpire Carlos Ramos is known to be a "stickler", but that doesn't necessarily mean his call was the right one. She received this violation because one of the coaches on the sideline was giving her a thumbs up, which can mean a number of things, but in this instants, it was just a good job thumbs up.
This same umpire has been called out by many players for his criticism during a match. and during the game, Serena went up t him and said, "I don't cheat to win, I'd rather lose"! This lit up social media and brought the attention to the fact that the umpire could have made the call falsely just because of Serena's reputation. I personally feel that she was embarrassed and discredited as a player and women role model. Yeah, there is no going back now, but it seems like there is any type of success for any women of color it is stripped and diminished by men and their ego.

  2. I believe that what Serena William's went through was unfair! She didn't get the same rights as the men who played this sport. Men who play this sport have gotten away with worse thing sad have received no punishment. - Lesly Marquez

  3. It just goes to show how you have to be twice as good when you're a woman, even more when you're a woman of color, to just be given a chance, and once you have that chance, you have to be perfect to prove you deserve it.
