Analysis:
This article was written in New York on Friday, September 6th, 2018, one day after the shooting. I had already heard about this police shooting on the day that it happened, but I didn't know much about the man who was shot. The article brings a new light to Botham Jean's life that wasn't shared on the local news on television. There are many shootings in the United States each year, and I think that we need to stop these shootings by providing more education to those who can get guns, legally or illegally. This article was written for everybody in the United States to read, and it shares negative news, but could have a positive influence on the public because it will increase awareness about the gun violence in communities where people who protect us could harm us. The article was written Matthew Haag, a general reporter that used to work in the Dallas Morning News, covering public education. This article was written to share the good that Botham Jean did in his life, even though it was cut short. This article is important because it spreads awareness about gun violence in America, but not from the standpoint of mass shootings by those who shouldn't have access to guns, but public figures that we expect to protect us.

This is a crazy story. The fact that the officer claims he mistook the apartment for his own, in my opinion, shows enough unstablilty in his mind. This was very well written and detailed.
ReplyDeleteI definitely agree. Even if he was entering his own apartment, what gave him the right to automatically shoot. Sure he thought it may have been an intruder, but did that give him the right to shoot and kill. Also, how did he happen to get into another person's apartment, as he probably did not have a key?
ReplyDeleteI agree, and I wrote about this event as well. The fact that she pulled a gun on a man she thought was invading her home sounds somewhat reasonable without specifics, but because she was invading his apartment, this is appalling and shows that humans will defend themselves with extreme measures even before we understand the situation.
