Poll Says 40% of Americans Think Elections Are Unfair -Cleo Chaney

In a recent poll done by NPR, 40% of respondents said they didn't believe elections are fair. 47% said they don't think all votes will be counted in upcoming elections. Republican white men tend to have the most confidence in the voting systems while Democratic, non-white women doubt the system the most. Issues people have with our elections range from fears of Russian interference to line waits. White people surveyed reported to have shorter line waits and drives to polling places, and one woman who was interviewed said it wasn't surprising that those who faced obstacles to vote in the past would view the process in a different light.

The majority of Americans are satisfied on how government agencies have worked on securing elections but not with President Trump's doings. And, in fact, since the poll has come out, Trump has placed an executive order to work against foreign people or countries interfering in elections, so it will be interesting to see if that greatly alters opinions, though I have a feeling it won't.

The large amount of dissatisfaction with the American government and the current president reflects the reactions people had to the 2016 elections and other polarizing events since then. In the past, there have been voting reform movements and other movements that have resulted from people feeling left out of the government. During the Jacksonian Democracy, suffrage greatly expanded among white men, due to many poor whites feeling snubbed in elections and threatened by aristocracy, private banks, and etc.
