Dallas police officer shoots her neighbor

Summary: An off duty Dallas police officer told authorities that on Thursday night when she entered her apartment she thought there was a burglar in her home, so she fired her gun and as a result killed the man Gotham Shem Jean. The officer apparently entered the wrong apartment and had entered the apartment of her neighbor. The officer was charged with manslaughter
Analysis: This can be connected back to police brutality or really any example where people in power arent held accountable for their crimes to the full extent of the law. Time and time again people in power commit crimes and have more lenient consequences simply because of their higher position in society.
In the article it states how the officer Guyger claimed that she gave orders to the individual when she was entering the apartment but she was ignored. I think that might've been avoided had there been more communication from the officer to the civilian or simply clearer orders. However I think that the man was probably immensely scared since to him there was some stranger who busted into his home yelling orders at him and was probably really confused and shocked. On another note, I find it extremely troubling that there was a three day period where the officer wasn't arrested, I think regardless of the circumstances, she killed a man and should've been detained immediately.
This story about this cop just keeps making think about the victims poor family. There should be a change on who iis supposed to SERVE and PROTECT not OBSERVE and MASSACRE

ReplyDeleteThis article makes me think of both sides of the story and i kind of think that the officer had no reason to shoot at the other person and also what i found suspicious is that how come the officer was able to get into the apartment. Also i think she meant to kill that person because she could of recognize the apartment as well from the interior and how can someone get confused on were they live.Also i think this could of been a excuse of her to admit what she had done and try to get away from it and not get arrested.
