Nike's Kaepernick Campaign- Gracie Zytynski

Nike has just made Colin Kaepernick the new face of its "Just Do It" 30th anniversary campaign. With Kaepernick as the face of nike, customers are cutting up or burning his product, due to his past choices. Nike is now embracing activism and racial justice after selecting him. In
nike's past, they have selected athletes who have spoken against policies, such as LeBron James and Serene Williams speaking to police shootings in the black community, but this time it is different. Trump is speaking against Nike making Nike less appealing to his supporters, but Nike is taking the side of superstar athletes, alienating Trump supporters on this opinion.

This article published by NBC News on September 8, 2018 shocked many. Prior to hearing about Kaepernick's past, I really never knew how his past event could effect his life forever. After reading this article, I was able to learn how one event can shape your future and how it effect many. In Kaepernick's past, he kneeled during the national anthem to protest against police brutality against people of color. Though we have the freedom of speach, people saw this as disrespectful and he should honor those who serve our country. This action resulted in him being kicked off the team and on bad terms with the NFL. Written to inform all, this is a positive influence due nike's main supporters being young ethnically diverse who would support Kaepernick's decision. The author of this article, most likely wrote this to inform the audience about nike's decision on choosing someone who would stand up for what they believe in. This article is important because it explains how Kaepernick and Nike are trying to demonstrate that to make a change you must stand up for what you believe in, even if it means you have to sacrifice everything.

  1. I think that mike has the right to sponsor anybody they want. Although he might Neal on the National anthem it is his belief and everybody is allowed to have whatever belief they want.

  2. I think it's good that Nike is backing Kaepernick. The people who are burning shoes should go donate them to the homeless.

  3. I agree with Ryian, Nike or any other company is allowed to sponsor whoever they want and shouldn’t be force to remove Kaepernick from being the face of Nike~ Stephannie Hernandez

  4. I heard about this on Wednesday, and I think it's awesome that Nike decided to sponsor Colin Kaepernick. In the sports world, Nike and other athletic wear brands like Adidas are untouchable, and the fact that the people that don't like supporting that idea can't do anything about it goes to show that we should just accept Kaepernick for who he is what he stands for (and his talent in football), and Nike agrees.
