Trump has named William Happer to be the new senior director of emerging technologies and to sit on the National Security Council. Happer is a Princeton atomic physicist and is a prominent skeptic of climate change, despite it not being his field of expertise. Happer's primary area of focus is adapting optics to stop fuzz and viewing issues in telescopes. He has stated on multiple occasions that he thinks carbon dioxide is not such a toxic "pollutant" and has said that the temperature isn't rising as "quickly as predicted". It is not certain to anyone how he would know this. After the Paris climate agreement was signed between 194 nations, Happer compared the deal to "British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain's appeasement of Hitler." Again it is unclear what Happer meant by comparing a   modern national climate agreement to a military political issue from the 1930s.

President Trump pulled out of the climate deal in 2017. Harper is advocating for a public review regarding climate change, though the other 193 nations taking part in the Paris climate agreement didn't seem to think it was necessary. The President has said that he values the importance of listening to scientist's advice, and so values Happer. Though the vast majority of environmental scientists agree upon the impacts of global warming, the atomic physicist Happer will continue to guide the president using his experience, involving telescopes. Happer will become apart of the National Security Council and advise the president in the ongoing debate against those who believe in climate change. Both agreed that those concerned with this issue are similar to a "cult movement."

The damage of not only denying climate change, but endorsing none expert commentary on the subject will continue to effect us beyond this administration. The U.S, by far the worst green house gas contributor, will pay the consequences on our own surroundings while others make progressive change to reverse the effects. Disputing an internationally accepted truth takes us away from a leadership position, and to one of willing ignorance.

  1. The lasting repercussions of such acts proves yet again the ignorance and lack of care within the Trump white house, and the fact that people like this are in office is why so many people still don't "believe" in climate change.

  2. I just don't understand how someone does not believe in climate change. It goes to show how ignorant and unqualified the Trump administration is. Who knows agreement Trump will pull out of next.

  3. It's ridiculous that even the most educated among us still refuse to see the facts. The temperature is rising. The hole in the ozone layer is growing. It just proves the lack of care for the environment within the Trump office and how deluded our society truly is.
