On Thursday, September 6th, Dallas Police officer Amber Guyger opened fire on Botham Shem Jean, believing that her home was being burglarized. However, she was on the wrong floor. Guyger is now being charged with manslaughter of an unarmed man. The investigation has been sent to the Texas Rangers in hope to prevent any bias of the situation, due to the fact that Guyger is a white woman and Jean was a black man. Jean's family are now in mourning of his loss and are demanding answers.
Violent racial profiling has been very present in the past few years and has been affecting many communities around the U.S. The murders of innocent brown and black men and women are unfortunately rising everyday, with the suspects walking free. My wish is that someday the powerful voices of the brown and black communities are to be heard and heard well so that we may stop these heart-wrenching events that affects us more than we allow ourselves to know and understand, and that those who open fire on them are to be brought to justice.
