Karsyn Kelly-3 people missing and several injured after boat collision at California-Arizona border
Two boats collided on the Colorado River along the California-Arizona border. This accident left one person dead, nine injured, and three missing. This crash occurred Saturday on the Colorado River between Needles, California, and Topock, Arizona, north of Lake Havasu. The police were looking for four missing people but then found the body of Christine Lewis, 51, from Visalia, California. The Sheriff's stated that one boat was carrying 10 people and the other carrying 6 people both collided head on. Both boats were thrown into the wanter and sank. Some were rescued from people boating near by. None on either of the two boats were wearing life jackets. After 45 minutes, rescue crews finally arrived and found more than a dozen people injured. Nine people were taken to near by hospitals by ambulance. Two were critically injured people were flown to a Las Vegas hospital.
This article proves a lot of points that people can take as a learning lesson. One being, always wear a life jacket when boating. They may seem like a hassle, but in this case, many more lives would have been saved in this situation. This article will also teach others to in general be more careful when doing things like this.

I wrote about a similar topic regarding accidental deaths on the water. It is astonishing that even after people are seeing and reading about fatal incidents with people not using life jackets, that people would still go on the water without them. At least there was a quicker rescue time by coast guards unlike a fatal incident up in Michigan's Apostle islands. - Joziah German
ReplyDeleteIt's stories like these that really show us that appearance isn't everything. I know I don't like wearing life vests because they just look stupid, but I wear them anyways because I'd rather look stupid than die, which is something I wish more people could realize.
