Summary: The United States have not been giving out as many work visas recently. In addition, they are asking to provide more information more often. Many people in the U.S. are upset about this, saying it creates problems with their employment. Without skilled immigrants, hospitals, hotels, and other businesses are struggling to find new employees. An example they give in the article is that a woman, who was supposed to come and be resident at a hospital, was stuck in India's Punjab state, which caused many other residents to have to pick up her workload. In April, Trump signed an executive order telling everyone to apply immigration laws. He also advertised a law that would reduce legal immigration to half of what it is. The article goes on to say that mainly, hospitals need foreign doctors to do the less wanted jobs, like family medicine. It also says that one-third of pathology residents came from other countries. It also argues that lower-skilled people from other countries' being let in is questionable, because they lessen the amount of people who didn't get a high school degree's chances of getting that job.
Analysis: This is written on September 3rd, 2018, showing that it is during the time that Donald Trump is the president. Cutting down immigration is something that he said he was going to do when he was campaigning, but when he was campaigning and when he was passing this law, he was overlooking the disastrous effects that this could have on our country and on our workforce. I was not aware of how many people are getting denied work visas and the effects of it before reading this article. The article actually mentions an instance in 1929 when the government deported hundreds of thousands of Mexicans that worked in farming and construction. In this situation, over half of the jobs abandoned by deported workers vanished. This was written to give people who might not search this information perspective on the consequences of the new immigration policies.
