Over this past week, some Californians decided to boycott In-N-Out Burger for donating 25 thousand dollars to the state’s Republican Party. Eric Bauman, a Democrat, helped blow up this situation by tweeting, “Et tu In-N-Out? Tens of thousands of dollars donated to the California Republican Party... it’s time to #BoycottInNOut - let Trump and his cronies support these creeps...” A spokesman for the Democratic Party in California clarified that this was Bauman’s personal opinion and wasn’t an official Democratic policy. However, this wasn’t the first time In- -Out’s donated to the California Republican Party; the chain donated $30,000 to them in 2017 and 2016. Most people don’t realize that the company also donated at least $80,000 this election cycle to Californians for Jobs and Strong Economy, a committee who’s focus was to elect DEMOCRATS to the committee and donated $30,000 in 2016.

I never realized how immersed In-N-Out was in the political world! I wonder if other fast food chains and restaurants donate that amount of money to political parties. I also agree that a boycott might be a little unnecessary given that people will still most likely continue to eat at the boycotted restaurants.
ReplyDeleteWhy are people wasting energy on pointless boycotts? Yes, In-N-Out do ated to the Republican party, but that doesn't mean they support Trump. The Republican party doesn't revolve around Trump there are other representatives it isnt that deep!
ReplyDeleteI feel conflicted about this because I was raised on in n out lol, but this is definitely a bold move on their part. While I don't necessarily agree with their decision, I don't really think boycotting will do a whole lot, because people will still eat there and they will still make money in the end.
ReplyDeleteI found this article very interesting because i never knew In-N-Out would be involved in politics and i also do agree on how boycotts now days are useless and it just shows how people are just not able to let other people support others. For example what if the citation was reversed as if in they donated the money to another political campaign then people wont be doing these types of things. -Yesenia Ramirez
ReplyDeleteI think companies have a right to support whatever political party they want and I also believe that being Republican isn't necessarily a bad thing but why you are one is what counts. Also I'm pretty sure they also donate money to the Democratic party so really this whole thing is very pointless.
ReplyDeleteI clearly don't live in California, but I sure do love some In-&-Out. I'm shocked to learn that a Californian restaurant chain would support the Republican party and also shocked to learn that they are very involved in politics.
