Derek Spellman Trump Administration Discussed Coup Plans With Rebel Venezuelan Officers

summary:
In Venezuela, their economy has basically collapsed and their people have resorted to looting, riots, and fleeing the country. The main cause of this is their authoritarian leader Nicolas Maduro. Recently word got out that the Trump administration was talking with rebellious military leaders about a coup to overthrow him. The problem with this coup is that the military in Venezuela is notoriously corrupt and rampant with cocaine trafficking. Washington has been in talks with Venezuela throughout even Obama's administration.

Analysis:
America doesn’t have much it can do to help the situation in Venezuela. If they leave Maduro in power he will hold on to his position as long as he can meanwhile many of the Venezuelan people become refugees. If they help the military overthrow Maduro it’s possible that they give power to drug traffickers or an equally corrupt military official. What they really need to do is overthrow the current government and temporarily control Venezuela while a just leader can be appointed. But even then it’s likely America would undercut the socialist values held by the country under Chavez and would likely come under criticism of the people and other countries.
