Cathy Huynh - Florida Republicans run from Trump on his denial of Puerto Rico deaths

Summary: In 2 tweets, President Trump claims that "3,000 people did not die" in hurricane Maria that hit Puerto Rico last year, falsely alleging that the official death toll was a part of a plot by Democrats to make him look bad. He was immediately criticized by Puerto Rican leaders, Democratic opponents, and even Republicans in Florida. These rebukes from Mr. Trump shows the importance of the Puerto Rican voters in a state where races are often decided by slim margins. Republican candidates have been showing concern for the Puerto Rican community's slow recovery to win over voters who often vote Democratic. Ron DeSantis, for example, who won last month's GOP primary for governor largely due to Mr. Trump's endorsement, "doesn't believe any loss of life has been inflated," for breaking from the president marked a 1st major shift away from conservative base voters that carried him to a victory in the primary.

Analysis: This Article was written on September 14, 1 day after Trump tweeted those tweets which gave ample time for accumulated responses like the one in the article to also be tweeted. Since it was so recent from the actual tweets, it is fair to assume that it's a reliable source. Before reading the article, I did see Donald Trump trending that day on Twitter and saw his tweets, but I didn't know there were reactions from Florida Republicans. I can connect this article to US History, how John Adams defended the soldiers from the Boston massacre in court but later joined the Patriotic cause instead of the Loyalist cause is similar to Florida Republicans who have been helped by Trump himself are deviating away from hiiimm. This article is supposed to have a positive influence on the audience, it is informing that not all Republicans agree with Trump. This article kind of screams left but I do understand that the author is trying so hard to be neutral. This article was written to expose Trump's tasteless denial of a whole "country's" suffering and immediate criticism from Republicans. This article shows the importance of freedom of speech and how its shaping society.
