"Brett Kavanaugh, Christine Blasey Ford to testify on assault allegations in public Monday"
Ariane de Vogue and Eli Watkins collaborated to publish an update to the developing court case between Brett Kavanaugh, United States Supreme Court nominee, and Christine Blasey Ford. The article discusses the accusation made against Kavanaugh, one of physical and sexual assault, and the conditions under which it was made. The incident was reported to have occurred thirty-six years ago, when Kavanaugh was seventeen and his accuser was fifteen. Ford has passed a polygraph test given to her by a previous FBI agent and provided a detailed description of the assault. The hearing is to be this coming Monday, which will delay the election for Supreme Court. This delay was welcomed by the president in a comment he made on Monday, September 17, 2018.
The #MeToo movement is constantly being brought up by news articles from all different publishers and newspapers, and it is being drawn into this current event. Many men and women have come forth over the past two years after a celebrity shared her assault story on Twitter and made the #MeToo campaign popular. CNN has briefly connected that movement with Ford's accusation against Kavanaugh.
With the #MeToo movement being so powerful and widespread, it is almost as if there is a global witch hunt for rapists. In history, this can be related to the Salem Witch Trials and McCarthyism. It is in times that these sorts of persecutions occur that our entire populous has to be very careful of the decisions we make and the statements we put forth. For example, if someone is falsely accused but the court decides that they are guilty, that person will suffer. I believe this ushers in, in regards to the United States, the ongoing problem of racial profiling. An innocent African-American men are more likely to be convicted of a sexual or physical assault that they did not commit than a white man guilty of the same crime. I currently cannot develop an unbiased opinion on whether or not I believe Brett Kavanaugh is guilty of what Christine Blasey Ford has accused him of as I have only read the CNN article, however I hope that he isn't for the sakes of Ford, Kavanaugh, and our country.
