Black Female Cop Stayed Calm Even As Suspect Repeatedly Calls Her N-Word - Daviah Harrison

This article was made on September 16, 2018 by Paula Rogo. The article states that an arrested suspect ,Ilya Freyman, screams the n-word at the police more than 50 times in one minute. The officer remained calm the whole time and never said a word. The video in the article clearly shows this happening and even though many people have said that they would not have been able to handle the situation in that way, the Police Commissioner states "As cops, we have to have a thick skin."

This article reminds me of how slaves were treated. When a white person would call a slave out of their name, most likely the slave wouldn't do anything because they would be punished and I feel like even though this article is almost the opposite, it still applies to this situation. If the black officer would have hit the man or reacted the way other people say they would, she would have probably lost her job. I believe that this article was written to show how strong the officer was in this situation and to show people that sometimes silence can be better than talking or doing something. I am proud of this lady but I also hate to know that if she was a white cop and did something about it, she could have done what she wanted to a certain extent and kept her job. There have been white officers to beat and shoot people with hand cuffs on and not be fired but I know that this would not be the case if  the black female officer reacted this way. I am still proud of this officer and appreciate her self control  and patience.

  1. Bless her heart. I don' think I would've reacted so calm to racist ignorance.

  2. It's a nice contrast to hear about a cop with such self control, instead of hearing about police on civilian abuse all the time.

  3. I saw the video of this over the weekend. It’s so unfortunate that black people have to deal with ignorance like this.
