Anna Speer-Theatrics in Washington D.C.

With the retirement of Justice Anthony Kennedy, President Trump earlier this year nominated Judge Brett Kavanaugh to replace him on the highest court in the land, the Supreme Court.  The fiery theatrics on whether to allow the Senate to vote on Kavanaugh started today in the Senate Judiciary committee.  The head of the committee, Sen. Grassley (rep-Iowa) was only a few minutes into his opening comments before the Democrats and protestors interrupted his speech. Despite delivering over 40,000 documents on the Supreme Court nominee, the opposition stated there was not enough time to review these opinions before the confirmation hearing. In addition, there was concern that Judge Kavanaugh would not treat all Americans fairly.  To make matters worse, there were constant interruptions from protestors who found there way into the hearing room. Despite all of this, the confirmation hearing continued. Former Secretary of State, Condoleezza Rice, introduced Kavanaugh with glowing remarks.  The hearing will continue on Wednesday.

It seems ironic that only a few days earlier at John McCain's funeral, there was goodwill to be bi-partisan. The finger pointing and talking over each other today only showed how divided we still are as a country.
