20 cities, one year, and no second Amazon headquarters (yet)

Summary: Amazon, one of the world's most innovative companies this year, has narrowed down its search for "HQ2" to 20 cities in North America. By Amazon promising to spend $5 billion on its HQ2 facility and to create 50,000 jobs, they have gotten many cities attention. The multi-billion dollar company has gathered massive amounts of data about the top 20 cities. The data gathered by Amazon includes a city's details of their labor force, quality of life, access to mass transit, and more importantly, what the cities are willing to offer to convince Amazon to chose their city as the location of HQ2.  Tax breaks is one of the many incentives that cities have offered and that could give Amazon an advantage in future negotiations with that particular city. Even if a city doesn't get chosen, that city could still benefit from investments directly from Amazon. A decision from Amazon is expected this year and whatever city Amazon chooses, will benefit economically and have a significant increase on the cost of living.

Analysis: This article was published on September 6, 2018 and was updated at 3:08 PM ET. This implies that the information provided in the article is accurate and up-to-date. This article is targeted towards the citizens of the 20 finalist cities and more specifically the people of the U.S. Moreover, the purpose of writing this article was to inform the readers about the progress of the HQ2 headquarters search and to also inform what the company is looking for from the cities. The search for an HQ2 headquarters location can relate to Toyota's search for a new North American headquarters a year ago. When Toyota moved its North American headquarters to Plano, Texas, many jobs were created in addition to the numerous amounts of houses, restaurants, and buildings that were created. Plano basically had an economic boom when Toyota chose their city as the location for their new North American headquarters. Any city that a company choses to relocate to will economically and socially improve.

  1. I really enjoy the fact that Amazon could have such an impact by just having a second headquarter into the city. I believe it may outweigh the jobs people had lost because of Amazon (for example toys r us or Macy's) and it will provide such a wonderful impact on a city if it gets chosen or not.

  2. Could you provide more information as to what Amazon is doing with the data it has to choose the location of HQ2? I'm wondering why it's taking so long for Amazon to decide. I understand that a huge project like this takes lots of careful planning, but Amazon has had this list of the last twenty cities for quite some time now.
