Shelby Flowers – Migrant Crisis
As Europe tries to handle the hundreds of
thousands of migrants that are flooding into the continent to escape the wars
of the Middle East, horrific photos of bodies washing up on beaches, being
found dead in trucks, and other frightening scenes are a constant reminder that
war is hell. When peace and love should be the battle cry for war, it ends up
being screams of help. Unfortunately
children are not exempt from war. They
often become the center of many nasty negations instead.
Analysis:
I find this article to be interesting because the
author’s name suggest a person of Middle Eastern descent. Talal Al-Khatib is
the authors name and I have no idea from the article whether it is a man or a woman.
I feel that Al-Khatib wrote this article from
a first person point of view, possibly from the point of view of a victim as
well. The author might be an escapee himself or herself.
I feel that the article is trying to paint a
negative picture that migrants are in a serious crisis of needing help to
escape a war torn country. Articles and pictures that show devastation and hurt
on the level of which this does usually cries out for national recognition and
support. I believe that it lends itself to trying to garner support from the
U.S. as well as other countries that will lend a hand in helping migrants.
Our country has strict laws on immigration and
yet I have seen first hand how our own citizens break those laws. Citizens that should hold fast to the law,
but break it for personal financial gain with no concern about the actual
migrant person.
This article targets the heartstrings of
humans, regardless of their religion, race or nationality. No decent human wants to see another human
suffering or dead because of trying to leave a place that is infiltrated with war,
crime and death. We as Americans have no
interest in living in that type of environment or a country such as Iran or
Iraq.
The U S extends it hands for all immigrants
and offers political asylum for any who need it. We even offer medical help for those that are
in power of countries such as Iran. The
early 80’s showed that with the medical treatment of the Shah of Iran, spending
time in the US for care.
Lady Liberty does not stand in the harbor of
New York for no reason; it stands there because the harbor is a waterway
connection for entering the land of the free and home of the brave. She illuminates the night sky to let all the
world know that we, the United States of America, open our arms to all who want
to make a better life, live free from persecution of political beliefs or religious
choices, or seek the security of life and not death by the government.
