Kenley Turner 3rd period- Survey: Mental Health Stigmas Are Shifting

Summery: Americans are starting to value their own mental health more and can agree that it contributes to our well being. However, a lot of people who need healthcare for it or hypothetically WOULD need it, claim treatment is too costly to be worth it. Also, the majority of people who think they are mentally ill or show symptoms don't seek help. Doctors say that it is possible to prevent this, as long as they take the steps necessary.

Analysis: I believe that Americans take mental health very seriously, and it is because we are a very privileged country. Although mental health is very important, it is not a top priority as opposed to physical health, which a lot of countries struggle with because of lots of diseases, droughts, famines, and pollution. America already has the solution to the majority of these things, however, people still suffer from mental illness. Americans see their own lives as very stressful, and usually very selfish, as opposed to 3rd world countries, where survival lies in the hands of the community and working together to achieve their basic needs. Americans have this time to focus on one's own self, so mental illness can be brought to the forefront. Although I believe that many people can get through this mental illness, it is important to seek help when necessary.
