Kindergardeners Learn Better with iPads - Olivia Lambert 3rd Period

According to a study in 2013-2014, kindergarteners with iPads who worked in groups had 28% higher grades on literacy tests compared to those students who didn’t have iPad. The “collaborative learning around technology” has enabled students with a different learning experience where they use all different kinds of apps and recording devices. The first study focusing on the effectiveness of iPads will be presented in May that can cause other school districts to make the switch to the sharing of technology.

There can be several different views on the subject of technology because within the past few years it has changed society for the better and the worse. The view of a conservative can look at this as an advantage to the kindergarteners because they will be learning at a more advanced and different way. Other people can look at the use of technology as a control issue where people are introducing technology in schools just because it is “cool” and it can ultimately make the students get distracted. Technological advancements dates all the way back to the first telephone by Alexander Graham Bell and the first radio by Samuel Morse. These advancements has been a huge benefit to society, so why not continue with the iPads?

  1. Wow, times really have changed. All I had were coloring books. If technology is used wisely, it can create even more successful generations to come.

  2. It is extremely important that students learn to use technology in a beneficial way but they also need to learn to live without it. I think it is a great idea to use technology in school but students should still be comfortable with working with pen and paper as well as typing.
