A woman from Indiana walked into her local hospital with blood dripping from her pelvis. When asked what was wrong, she admitted to having aborted her own child. According to her, the child was still alive and she had thrown it away in the dumpster. She was then arrested and brought in and charged with feticide. She had aborted her own child because she conceived it with a partner, and did not want to tell her religously strict family. The judge ruled that she will spend 20 years in prison.
This sparked much controversy. Abortion was made legal during the Roe vs. Wade court case, but Indiana has a rule saying that it is illegal to abort your child on your own, or cause any harm to it. This brought questions like, would pregnant mothers who drink and smoke face the same prosecution, and since the baby was alive, would it still be considered feticide? I think that this woman should have underwent professional help, and not try to do it herself. It could have killed her, not only her child.

I agree with you. I don't want to get controversial and talk about abortion rights or lack thereof, but I do feel like this woman should have either had the baby and put them through an orphanage or had more options.
