Austin, Texas - White Only Stickers Posted on Store Windows Madana Kloss 4th

Austin, Texas - On March 18, 2015 an "exclusively for White People" Only sticker was seen posted on the front door of a clothing store. The sticker states "maximum 5 colored customers. The city logo is printed upon the sticker and is stated to be sponsored by the city of Austin. The owner of the clothing store had not noticed this posting of this sticker and was immediately confronted by the police. The owner of the clothing store believes this act is not innocent and is very "racist" - "whoever posted this sticker on my store should be punished." The police had noticed several other postings of this sticker around town as well. Mayor Steve Adler condemns the act as it is not funny, but it is racist and brings up the past history of our country. A few days later, March 22, Adam Reposa stepped forward and admitted responsible for distributing these stickers. Reposa, an area-based attorney, confirmed in a video he posted onto Youtube the reason for this act. Reposa conveys that Austin, Texas denies people..."people without money..they're getting pushed out and pretty quick, this area of town is turning into whites only, not by law like it used to be." Reposa continues by describing how he believes the whole town of Austin is racist and this was his way of showing it.

I believe these stickers was an act of vandalism; however, Adam Reposa does have reasoning to his motives. The town of Austin should understand Reposa's motives and possibly see if his intentions were accurate - a possible change might be needed? This connects to US History because it relates to the 1960s and the need for justice for African Americans. These stickers, even though it was only posted by one person, conveys that inequality and injustice is still occurring and needs to be addressed.

  1. I also understand the attorney's motives, but there had to be a better way to address it rather than being satirical about it..

  2. Yeah, hopefully he wasn't at fault. It's terrible how racism is still alive so close to Dallas.
