"Kirby Delauter, Kirby Delauter, Kirby Delauter" by Alex Norton 4th Period

Councilmen Kirby Delauter was mentioned exactly once in an article about local parking issues by Bethany Rodgers, a reporter for the Frederick News-Post. He did not like that his name was used at all and threatened to sue her in a Facebook post. He claimed that he had to authorize the use of his name before it is published in a news article. In this article, "Kirby Delauter, Kirby Delauter, Kirby Delauter," the Frederick News-Post had some fun by satirically approaching the incident. They proceeded to publish this article poking fun at Delauter by using his name 27 times and by going through what journalists would have to refer to him as if they did indeed have to get his permission first. One of the names was, "Harry Potter-esque "He Who Shall Not be Named." (Cue the lightning strike and peal of thunder.)" in this obviously light-hearted piece of satire the core of the message isn't all that light. They begin recalling the numerous deaths of journalists in recent history, stressing the importance of the job. Lets not forget the right to press amendment in our constitution. We must know the truth about people, especially when it comes to people who could be put in a place of trust in our government.

  1. I couldn't have agreed more. People like Kirby Delauter are the reason that we need to exercise our right to free speech more than ever.
