Collapse of Antarctic Ice - Lizy Rutherford, 4th pd

Large parts of the ice sheet in Western Antarctica have begun their collapse. Two scientist groups reported on Monday that with global warming accelerating this collapse, it is almost inevitable and unstoppable. This means that the long-held fear of a 10 foot rise in sea level is becoming reality. Most of the world's coastal cities will have to be abandoned when the rise happens. However, global warming isn't the only factor at work. Warm water naturally occurring around Antarctica is to blame as well. These waters well up from the ocean's depths.

This terrifies me. Truly. It may not be related to u.s. history but it will affect us. It makes me feel like every country needs to have a conference about conservation and make drastic changes to their current energy use, water use, pollution, etc. It matters what we as citizens do as well. We all have to make changes together or die trying.

  1. Things like this have always freaked me out! I hope it doesn't happen, but science has lots of evidence to prove that it will. So sad...
