Recent crackdown on immigration across US borders has caused many to take some extreme routes to enter the US. Honduran youths, mostly men, have been known to attempt to enter the US in order to get more money than they're able to at home. Many want to send the money they'd make in the US back to their families. However, their journey is treacherous. The Arizona desert has become an increasingly popular stretch to attempt, despite being one of the least hospitable areas of the US. Death is common for the brave immigrant. Families are often left with no way of knowing what happened to their children, dreaming of better lives. Some organizations have been founded, like Honduras' Cofamicro, that help these families locate their loved ones, living or dead. They do this through DNA testing and other resources. I'm glad, these families need all the help they can get. To lose a family member is bad enough. To lose one and not know where they went is the worst.
it is so interesting to hear about the length that people will go through to get some of the things we call basic...
ReplyDeleteImmigration is such a complex issue. At every corner one may find another tragedy, injustice, or fallacy. The answer to the immigration question has alluded Americans for hundreds of years, but I think that at least some of our answers improve each time around. I hope that these people and their families receive all they help they can get and that tragedies such as these are recognized for the injustice that they are.
